If we're going to define "herbwifery" / grassroots community herbalism, it will help us to name some examples of plant people who practiced in an herbwifely way.

Linden posted some links about Tommie Bass in the Resources section, and he's one of the first people who comes to mind for me when I think of a real live herbwife. He practiced in a really simple, open way, helping everyone who came to him, teaching people how to gather their own medicine, and not asking much in return. He was part of a living herbal tradition (the Southern Appalachian tradition) -- one that's still alive, by the way, even if it isn't splashed all over the herbal headlines.
